AIRPORTS all over the UK, and for that matter the world, are reporting record figures for 2004. BAA's UK airports handled 140.1m passengers during the calendar year, an increase of 6.9% on 2003. Typically Heathrow increased by 6.2% to 67.1m passengers, Gatwick 5% increase to 31.4m, and Southampton a 25.7% increase to 1.5m. Stansted slowed down only just making the predicted 20m with an 11.7% rise. In Scotland, Glasgow passenger numbers rose 5.5% to 8.6m, Edinburgh added 7% to 8m and even Aberdeen put on 5% to 2.6m. During the calendar year air traffic movements rose 3.8% to 1.21m whilst cargo benefited 7.7% to 1.8m tonnes.
