INVERNESS, the capital of the Highlands, seems to be booming with the airport reporting record figures and is on target to handle around 700,000 passengers in the year ending 31 March 2006, compared to 565,000 passengers in 2004/05, nearly twice as many as at the start of the decade. A new link road to the A96 is under construction and should be completed by the end of March and the airport tells ABTN that the Gatwick route remains the most popular with three BA CitiExpress services weekdaily plus a single easyJet operation. Heathrow has a single bmi flight and Luton is linked to by easyJet. Recently opened is a brand new deli-bar with a view out onto the airport”s apron.
