The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has introduced the first of 50 ”Power Poles” in JFK airport. The eight foot (2.4m) poles will all be installed by the end of this month, at locations throughout the airport.
Each pole has four outlets to charge laptops, mobile phones and other electronic devices. They are free to use.
”Many travellers now rely on cell phones, laptops and other electronic devices to stay in touch when they”re flying around the country and the world,” Port Authority vice chairman Charles A. Gargano said. ”When our customers told us they needed this recharging service, we moved quickly to provide it, and best of all, it”s free to use.”
Port Authority intends to roll out the service at its other agency facilities later in the year.
