JETSTAR ASIA is the name of a new low-cost airlines launched by Qantas in Singapore last week. The carrier is an international regional extension of Jetstar, the low-cost carrier launched by Qantas in the Australian domestic market in May and is a partnership between Qantas, Singaporean businessmen Tony Chew and FF Wong and Temasek Holdings. Officials say Jetstar Asia will start service to popular tourist and business destinations within five hours of Singapore by the end of the year. The fleet of brand new Airbus A320 aircraft, which seat 180, is scheduled to start arriving in Singapore from next month. The airline plans to have four A320s by January, building to more than 20 over the next three years.
