QANTAS boss Geoff Dixon was in London last week preaching about the Airbus A380 (he says he will announce the passenger configuration by the end of the year), completely denying any tie-up with Singapore Airlines (”there will be consolidation but we want to be the senior partner”), and praising the virtues of the Boeing 777-200LR (”yes we want it” see Boeing story above). A skilful speaker, fire and brimstone was in the air when it came to government backed airlines, citing Emirates as an example and pointing out that the airline”s chairman also headed Dubai”s civil aviation authority and the Dubai airport administration ”not a level playing field”. The government rescue of Air New Zealand did not seem to find favour with Mr Dixon either.
