HEATHROW could face a series of disruptive strikes following a ballot of Heathrow Express staff in a dispute with BAA over union representation. The workers, members of the ASLEF union, will stage 24-hour walkouts beginning at noon three consecutive Fridays ” 3, 10 and 17 October. The union workers are seeking sole representation by ASLEF rather than joint representation as proposed by the airport operator. BAA points out that ASLEF decided to pursue industrial action over the form of recognition offered and balloted its 104 members (out of the total 236 Heathrow Express operation staff). Of those, just 41 voted for industrial action.
