Porter Airlines, the new resident airline at Toronto City Centre Airport (TCCA), has confirmed October 23 for the start of services. TCCA has long been an integral part of the Toronto waterfront, purpose-built in 1939 on reclaimed property in Lake Ontario and was the city”s first commercial airport.
However it has been controversial with many opponents and is currently without scheduled operations. Porter is the vision of president and CEO Robert Deluce, who earlier this year ordered ten Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
The airline plans to offer up to ten round-trip flights to Ottawa each weekday, and two on Saturday and Sunday. It also plans to develop routes to cities within 500 miles”two hours flying time”of Toronto. Passengers will be able to use a purpose-built terminal.
There is just one drawback for this fine airport less than two miles from the city centre. It is on an island and any ideas of a bridge are always opposed. But a brand new environmentally-friendly ferry will improve access for passengers, airport services and emergency vehicles with more trips per hour and higher reliability.
