PHUKET AIR, the independent Thai airline which last week gained national notoriety due to serviceability problems with its Boeing 747-200, has withdrawn from the UK market. This decision was made before the ”passenger power” headlines and was due to be effective with the last outbound flight 23 April. The airline started flying three times weekly from Gatwick to Bangkok last June. The airline says that the Boxing Day tsunami has had a serious effect on forward bookings making the operation unsustainable in the short to medium term.
