OAG, the flight data specialists (and our sponsor) has come out with some interesting statistics for 2003
Worldwide, the number of scheduled flights continues to rise, up 3%. Flights to and from the UK are up 5% whilst the UK domestic market has grown by 1% year on year.
In the US the airline industry continues to see an upturn in activity with growth of 3% year on year for flights to and from the region. The US domestic market has also shown an increase of +2% on March 2003 numbers.
In the rapidly expanding budget sector the growth has been dramatic within Europe, the number of low cost flights rose by 56%.
The number of flights in this sector to and from the UK rose by 18% and on domestic flights by 10%.
The figures are part of the sixth OAG Quarterly Report on global airline schedules.
