Global airline capacity this week is up 21 per cent compared
with last week as carriers have added about 8.2 million seats, according to
OAG.
South Asia had the highest rate of capacity growth this
week, more than doubling compared with last week by adding 1.4 million seats,
largely in India. Capacity in Western Europe was up 47 per cent week over week
with about 1.2 million seats added, more than a third of which were added by
Ryanair, OAG reported. Domestic capacity in China was also up this week after
last week's lockdown in Beijing, with about a million seats added to Beijing
airports, bringing Chinese domestic capacity to about 86 per cent of its levels
prior to the pandemic.
Overall, global airline capacity this week is 41 per cent of
its levels this time last year, an improvement of 7 per centage points compared
with last week.
