Global airline capacity dipped 2 per cent week over week to
about 31 million seats, although capacity was up in eight of the ten largest
regional markets, according to OAG.
The largest areas of growth this week were the lower South
America and Southwest Pacific regions. Capacity in South Asia, however, was
down 40 per cent compared with the prior week, though capacity remains a third
higher than where it was two weeks ago, OAG reported.
Overall, global capacity stands at about 28 per cent of what
it was this time last year. China currently accounts for more than a third of
total global air capacity, with 98 per cent of those seats on domestic routes.
