Low-cost carrier Norwegian’s UK subsidiary has been granted a foreign air carrier permit by the US Department of Transportation, which allows it to operate flights between the UK, Europe and the US.
Norwegian UK was set up in 2015 and has announced a tranche of new routes recently, including direct services from Gatwick to Seattle and Denver, as well as Singapore and Argentina. The airline says the US permit allows it to use the same aircraft across all long-haul routes, while CEO Bjørn Kjos believes that the company’s growth prospects will lead to job creation and economic benefits.
The company says it will now set out to determine which existing and planned services will be operated under the UK subsidiary.
