BEIJING now has a non-Chinese controlled foreign exchange desk, a real boon for international passengers. One of the world”s fastest growing gateways, the airport currently handles some 40m passengers a year and growth is expected to increase by 20% rising to an estimated 60m passengers leading up to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. China is renowned as a complex and highly controlled market, especially in the foreign exchange sector where approval for new business to provide services to the travelling public, has previously been awarded only to Chinese banks. As the business grows and demand increases, ICE plan to add additional bureaux in the airport, and parallel expansions are on the drawing board for other airports and travel hubs in China.
