ALITALIA”s reliance on state aid and handouts from banks looks set to be coming to an end. Auditors for the struggling Italian carrier have reportedly refused to sign-off its interim figures, which may well wreck a ”815 million rescue package. Banks are refusing to underwrite more money for the airline, which consistently loses money, and a deal with European Commission regulators demands state-holding in Alitalia be reduced to 50% and most of the rescue money come from private investors.
