AMERICA: Visitors to the US, particularly occasional business travellers, should be aware that arriving at a local destination by air is not getting any easier. According to statistics published by ”USA Today” at least 22 American airports have lost all flights in the past three years, little-known casualties of harsher economics that are changing air travel. Some experts predict that more small airports will lose service as large and small airlines restructure operations. But so far, the effect on travellers appears to be slight. This seems to be the opposite of continental Europe where more and more small regional operations are now attracting services. Currently there are 685 scheduled airports in the US, according to OAG, and 624 in continental Europe (including 131 in east Europe and Russia west of the Urals). The UK has 61.
