SINGAPORE”s unnamed new budget airline will fly Airbus A320 aircraft when it begins intra-Asia operations at the end of this year. Con Korfiatis, chief operating officer of the carrier, said lease agreements had been signed for eight single-aisle Airbus aircraft. He said the airline had applied for its Singapore Air Operator”s Certificate and would apply for traffic rights to a range of Asian cities within five hours of Singapore in due course. Qantas owns 49.9% of the new airline with 21.1% owned by Mr Tony Chew and 10% owned by Mr FF Wong, both prominent Singaporean businessmen. Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited, a major investment company based in Singapore, owns the remaining 19%.
