Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is to be the beneficiary of a new moving paving system developed by KONE, called InnoTrack, claimed to be so flat unlike conventional solutions it can be installed entirely on the floor level. Such a system would be perfect at Heathrow which, whilst offering many people movers, does have very long walks for some gates.
Due to the innovative pallet return mechanism and a new design of electric motor, each KONE InnoTrack sits on the existing floor, some of which can be solid, or very complex underneath. The first six will be installed in Schiphol Terminal B during April 2007.
KONE spokesperson Heikki Lepp”nen commented: ”InnoTrack is a breakthrough innovation in the escalator business. The modular-based flat technology platform and the reinstallation possibility enable the use of InnoTracks in buildings and premises in which autowalks have not been used before. An InnoTrack can be installed without changes in the floor structure, which enables the easy installation in both existing and new buildings. These features make it a solution for a wide range of different locations and premises with a need for efficient traffic flow."
KONE claims the new moving walkway weighs significantly less than conventional systems. As a result of its modular design, it can be delivered to the installation site in parts. Moreover, the installation method makes it possible to easily alter the size and location of each autowalk, giving greater lifetime flexibility.
New technology also allows more efficient and flexible use of space, and giving greater architectural freedom in designing buildings. It is environmentally friendly because of its oil-free drive system and pallet chain and the fact that it uses significantly less material than traditional solutions.
