AMERICAN AIRLINES is to introduce widebody service from Shannon later
this year dropping its existing, single-class daily Boeing 757 service
to Boston and replacing it with a daily, two-class Boeing 767
operation to Chicago. This will operate in conjunction with American”s
existing Dublin ” Chicago route. In effect AA is cutting back on its
Irish services, US demographics changing in the 21st century with
Boston no longer seen as the traditional gateway to the Emerald isle.
The aircraft, soon to have the new AA business class seats, routes
Shannon ” Chicago ” Dublin and back to Shannon. And AA is to drop
its Glasgow ” Chicago service according to last Friday”s Glasgow Herald.
The US has always been a marginal operation from Scotland, BA pulling
off and now Continental the only airline serving New York, from both
Edinburgh and Glasgow.
