HEATHROW is to have a new managing director next spring. He is Tony Douglas, currently in charge of the T5 project, which is on time and on budget. In March 2006 he takes on responsibility for the whole airport from Mick Temple, current managing director of Heathrow, who becomes executive chairman of LHR, adding the Heathrow Express responsibility as well. Tony will continue to mastermind the T5 project. In other senior BAA management changes, Janis Kong, executive chairman of Heathrow Airport, is to retire at the end of February 2006 and Mike Toms, director of planning and regulatory affairs, has indicated his intention to leave the Group in Autumn 2006. Janis Kong”s responsibility for BAA”s relationships with airlines will be taken over by Duncan Garrood, BAA”s divisional director responsible for Gatwick and Stansted international operations and marketing. Mike Toms' responsibilities are to be divided. Donal Dowds, currently divisional managing director of BAA Scotland, will take over his planning role including the Stansted G2 second runway project. Stephen Baxter, currently managing director of Glasgow Airport, will become managing director, BAA Scotland.
