LONDON CITY AIRPORT now has its new holding point in operation at the eastern end of the runway (see http://www.abtn.co.uk). Previously only a single aircraft could land or take off at any one time but with the new arrangement up to three movements can take place consecutively without recourse to the terminal parking area, allowing for a 25% increase in the hourly rate, from 24 maximum to 30. The airport says that the new arrangement will open up further slots during the peak morning and evening periods. Other news from the airport is that the new DLR link is ahead of schedule and could be ready for WTM in November 2005. Also sprinting forward, and likely to be completed early are the major A13 roadworks which, whilst not part of the airport road network, but does affect traffic in the vicinity. The road, effectively a dual carriageway from Aldgate to Southend, is expected to be completed in the new year.
