NATS, National Air Traffic Services, is to be strengthened at board
level with two significant appointments The Rt Hon Baroness Dean of
Thornton-le-Fylde (Brenda Dean), left , the former Chair of the
campaigning group Freedom to Fly, and Air Vice-Marshal Andrew White,
before retirement responsible for managing all military air traffic
control. NATS is in fact a bit of a misnomer as it not only looks
after control of commercial aircraft in UK airspace and parts of the
North Atlantic but also provides air traffic control at some 16 UK
airports. NATS Holdings Ltd is made up of the Airline Group Ltd, a
consortium of seven airlines with the majority of voting rights and 41.
9% of the shares; the Secretary of State for Transport with 48.9% of
the share capital; BAA plc 4.2% and NATS Employee Sharetrust Ltd the
remaining 5%.
