CASTLE DONNINGTON AIRPORT, which has the official IATA code of EMA, but has had its named changed recently by its owners from East Midlands International Airport to Nottingham East Midlands Airport, is in more trouble. An application to extend the international departure lounge by 40% to give an extra 1,800 square metres of space has been turned down by the local planning authority the North West Leicestershire District Council. The decision was made even though council officers recommended it should go ahead. Airport managers claimed its business would suffer if refused. Local councillors said that there were concerns over extra flights. On the positive side Manchester Airports Group, owner of the airport, last week raised a ”325m credit facility some of which is expected to be used for future investment at EMA.
