BAR UK, the trade association for scheduled airlines, has named Mike Carrivick to succeed Peter North as chief executive when he retires at the end of September. Mike began his career as an apprentice with British European Airways (BEA), now British Airways, before moving on to Qantas with whom he spent 20 years. His airline experience also included Brymon Airways. In 1994 he was appointed managing director of Maersk Travel and this led to membership of the Guild of Business Travel Agents (GBTA) where he was later elected deputy chairman. Since 2000 he has worked with IATA on passenger distribution policy issue. Also on the move is the affable Tim Jeans, the one time side-kick of Ryanair”s Michael O”Leary before joining the MyTravel Group in 2001 where he was chief operating officer of its airline”s division. Tim is likely to re-surface somewhere in the airline industry. Watch this space.
