A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck south east of Mexico City last night, causing severe damage to many buildings and temporarily closing the airport. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office reports that the airport is now re-opened, but travellers are advised to check with their airline regarding delays or cancellations.
Footage from the city shows collapsed buildings and more than 200 people have died, with many more missing. British citizens in the area are warned that the British Embassy in Mexico City is closed due to structural damage and are advised to call +44 (0)20 7008 1500 if they are in need of assistance.
