RYANAIR is to open up a base at Marseille and with two aircraft
operate limited services on 13 routes. It has a target of almost one
million passengers in the first 12 months. From November the
Irish-based but UK-domiciled airline will connect Marseille to
Charleroi, Dublin, Eindhoven, Fez, Hahn, Karlsruhe Baden, Marrakech,
Oujda, Oslo, Prestwick, Porto, Rome and Stansted. The new operation
is bound to shake up the French market totally dominated by Air France.
ABTN has, where possible, used the popular name for each airport served
and not that on the press release. French passengers will have to
learn that Hahn is 70 miles from Frankfurt, a route Air France does
operate. Ryanair, never one to miss a publicity trick, has now accused
Air France of state aid. AF has retaliated to the effect that Ryanair
spreads misinformation. Our photo shows ceo Michael O'Leary sitting
this one out. A close inspection also shows a member of the cabin
staff.
