Luton airport says it has made an ‘enhanced pay offer’ that has provisionally been accepted, bringing staff to suspend potential strike action.
The Unite union announced last month that Luton’s passengers faced a ‘summer of chaos’ as staff were balloted on industrial action in relation to pay and zero-hours contracts. The vote was open to members in several roles at the airport, including firefighters and security guards.
Following a revised pay offer from the airport, Unite said it would consult its members on the deal, bringing an end to strike action while an agreement is reached.
However, Menzies Aviation staff, who conduct ground handling operations for Easyjet, Vueling, Blue Air and Tarom, are still set to walk out on 26 and 27 May. In addition, passenger assistance provider CCS will be on strike from 28-30 May.
Luton says it does not expect these strikes to impact operations but warns there still may be last-minute delays to services.
