LUTON AIRPORT owner TBI Plc plans to buy out the joint venture between US construction firm Bechtel and Singapore Changi Airport Group's stake in the Bedfordshire airport for £78m subject to the AGM's approval.
The airport is likely to see a large increase in passengers next year from its current 7m with new routes for both easyJet and Ryanair. It is expanding its terminal facilities.
TBI also owns Belfast International and Cardiff airports in the UK.
One of the possible consequences of the buyout could be either the breaking up of the group and the sale of one or more airports.
In recent times other international airport operators have been known to take a serious view of a purchase.
It has been argued that Luton Airport”s position by the M1 makes it more attractive than Stansted.
