Lufthansa is to continue expansion of services from London City Airport with the introduction of two new routes. It will become the second largest operator at the east London operation (after VLM). Hamburg and Nuremberg are the airline's fifth and sixth destinations from London City boosting the total number of flights from the Docklands airport to 68 a week. Lufthansa Regional Partners will operate both services.
On the long haul front Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) is a new destination this winter. Lufthansa claims to be the leader in the subcontinent with 88 flights a week from Europe to India. And with 24 destinations it remains the strongest European airline in the Asian market. Lufthansa will resume services to Cape Town in South Africa as well as offering additional flights to San Francisco and S”o Paulo.
