Lufthansa Group has announced it will expand its long-haul network from Munich and Frankfurt in summer 2020 with new routes and increased capacity.

The focus of the expansion is on North American routes, with services to be spread across Lufthansa and its low-cost subsidiary Eurowings.

For Munich passengers, the group will operate flights to Seattle (pictured) every day except Thursdays from 1 June 2020, departing at 1530 and arriving at 1655 local time, returning at 1845 and landing at 1350 the following day.

Beginning on 4 May 2020, Detroit will see five service a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, leaving at 1240 and landing at 1545 local time, returning at 1735 and arriving at 0745 the following morning.

Meanwhile, Lufthansa will launch flights to Bangalore on 31 March 2020. Services will operate five times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, taking off at 1155 and landing at 0005 local time the following day. The return flight leaves at 0145 and arrives at 0730.

All of the above flights will be served from Munich for the first time and will be operated by the Airbus A350-900.

Eurowings will launch flights to Las Vegas twice a week from 6 April 2020 on Mondays and Fridays, departing Munich at 1145 and landing at 1420 local time. Return services leave at 1630 and arriving at 1255 the next day. These services will supplement flights operated by Lufthansa from Frankfurt three times a week year-round.

Lastly, flights from Munich to Orlando begin on 7 April 2020, with Eurowings operating the service on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Departure will be at 0910, landing at 1355 local time, with the return flight leaving at 1545 and arriving at 0720 the following day.

From Frankfurt, Eurowings will fly to Phoenix, Arizona from 29 April 2020 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flights depart at 1405 and arrive at 1705 local time. The return service leaves at 1855 and lands at 1505 the following day.

Finally, Eurowings will also launch services to Anchorage, Alaska on 1 June 2020, operating on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays leaving at 1030 and landing at 1155 local time. The return flight departs at 1355 and arrives at 1045 the next morning.

Harry Hohmeister, chief commercial officer of network airlines, said: “Lufthansa’s feeder flights and the Frankfurt and Munich hubs will make it even easier for our passengers to reach the most beautiful places in the world in future.”

The news comes despite Lufthansa Group's announcement that it would restructure Eurowings' long-haul network in an effort to return the airline to profitability.
