RYANAIR continues to be in the news (although as previously noted the petty Mr O”Leary has cut ABTN off its press release distribution list). On the negative side the airline has dropped one of its two daily flights from Londonderry to Stansted for the winter, naturally blaming the authorities and has issued a press release concerning Dublin Airport. ”It is a shambles and a disgrace”, says the airline. There clearly are problems at all airports from time to time but Aer Rianta is trying to overcome them. In an eventful week BAA said it would sue Ryanair for one million (sterling) in unpaid landing fees and having previously had the hand of friendship extended at Stansted Ryanair retaliated by filing documents at the London High Court complaining of monopoly abuse by BAA, a move which could find sympathy with other carriers. The airline has also had to two fire two holiday making senior cabin staff who, unable to acquire a legal seat, disappeared into the toilet during a take-off. A sharp eyed member of the public noticed what was going on and reported the action to the Irish CAA, who were forced to act. The captain involved resigned too! And finally the airline is again to have a major presence at Luton (see above ” easyJet), its original UK base before being enticed to Stansted. It will be interesting to observe how the parallel routes measure up, many people believing that Luton could have a greater potential than the less accessible Stansted.
