KUWAIT will soon welcome the first private airline into its skies following the government's decision last November to liberalise the market. In an attempt to generate a stronger market and reduce fares new start-up Al Jazeera Airways will compete with national carrier Kuwait Airways on both domestic and regional routes. The new airline has been formed by Kuwaiti business group Boodai which already has key investments in the media and transport sectors but almost 70 percent of its shares are now in the hands of public investors following a recent initial public offering. Al Jazeera will launch operations before the end of the year but no announcement has yet been made on the airline's proposed network nor its fleet plans.
