KITTY HAWK, one of the most recognised names in the US cargo market, will become the first North American carrier to operate the Boeing 737-300SF 'Special Freighter' after signing a lease deal with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for seven aircraft. The new aircraft are being acquired under ten year lease deals with the first aircraft scheduled for delivery in November 2004 and the rest following through 2005. Although initially supporting Kitty Hawk's existing fleet of Boeing 727-200Fs on the company's extensive logistics network, covering over 60 cities across North America, the new aircraft will eventually replace the older generation aircraft. Work to convert the passenger Boeing 737-300s to SF models is to be performed by one of the leading passenger-to-cargo aircraft conversion companies in the world, Israel Aircraft Industries, Bedek Division.
