INDIA has decided to open the main airport in disputed Kashmir to international flights. Officials hope the move will draw more tourists to the scenic Himalayan region, which is torn by a 15 year revolt that has killed thousands. The airport in the main Kashmiri city of Srinagar is being upgraded. It is still unclear which airlines will operate. Despite political unrest, roughly 360,000 people visited Kashmir last year, albeit mostly Indians, up from 191,000 in the previous year. Israelis and Chinese are the most popular ethnic groups to visit the region.
