KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has unveiled a new cabin class
offering called Premium Comfort, bringing the carrier in line with others who
have been offering premium economy seats for years.
According to KLM, Premium Comfort will feature between 21
and 28 seats depending on the aircraft type and will offer a class with “more
space, luxury, service options, comfort and privacy” than economy seats at a
lower price point than its World Business Class.
The Premium Comfort seat offers more legroom than a standard
economy seat, as well as a larger entertainment screen and a footrest. They can
also recline further than economy seats.
KLM said the seats were designed in collaboration with
Collins Aerospace to be lighter than previous designs. In addition, catering
supplies were chosen to be either reusable or made from recycled materials.
Passengers will have a “more flexible” baggage allowance as
well as SkyPriority privileges, including preferential check-in and boarding, according
to the carrier.
The first aircraft to be fitted with the new cabin class
will operate routes to North America, with the airline planning to put tickets
on sale from the end of July 2022. KLM says the cabin will be installed on
other aircraft and routes in due course.
