KLM president and CEO Leo van Wijk was in London last week talking to members of the Aviation Club. In a speech that can only be described as ”low key” he reminded his audience that whilst the Dutch airline is now owned 80%+ by Air France that BA was once a suitor. Just like an old lover the memories linger on. What might have been! He emphasised two things. The lack of a true EU aviation policy and investment, and a personal belief that the North Atlantic traffic rights would be sorted out this summer. He emphasised that KLM would retain its product identity whilst clearly going for commonality across the fleet. Amsterdam will remain a two cabin class hub in operational terms, whilst first class will continue from Paris on certain routes. Our photo shows him with AF boss Jean Cyril Spinetta.
