Indian carrier, Jet Airways, is to start daily services from its new European hub in Brussels, providing direct services to New York Newark, via the Belgian capital from Mumbai.
Flights will begin on 5 August, while services from Delhi to Toronto will launch later this year. Further ahead, Jet Airways plans to operate ten daily services from Brussels between cities in India, the US and Canada.
Subject to government approval, the airline will add flights from Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Chennai to Los Angeles, Chicago and New York JFK, all via Brussels.
The Brussels choice is interesting given that the airline had sung the praises of the UK at last week”s unveiling of its new cabin offering, but a spokesman from Delhi said that: ” We were able to get the right timing slots at the airport and the partnership with Brussels Airlines.”
Jet Airways has signed a memorandum of understanding with Brussels Airlines to include codesharing, frequent flyer partnerships and through check-in facilities.
Brussels Airlines will implement its codeshare on Jet Airways-operated services between Brussels and Mumbai, Delhi and Toronto, while the Indian airline will also codeshare on Brussels Airlines flights from the Belgian capital to Stockholm Oslo, Birmingham, Geneva and Madrid. Again subject to government giving the nod, this could extend to 25 routes.
”We were looking for an opportunity to combine our expansion plans to the US and Canada with an efficient hub in Europe and a strong national carrier ” we have found it all at Brussels,” said Jet Airways chairman, Naresh Goyal.
”Additionally, we are delighted to be able to offer customers in Belgium a world class in-flight product with all the latest innovations in the airline industry.”
