Open Skies talks start
The Open Skies talks between the EU and the EU to liberalise air traffic regulations between the two sides opened in Brussels amid optimism that an agreement could be reached by the end of the year.
America is seeking greater access to London Heathrow while Europe is looking for a relaxation of US rules regarding the foreign ownership of American-based carriers.
SAS signs GDS deal with Worldspan
Scandinavian carriers SAS has signed a deal with Worldspan to distribute its full content on the GDS. The airline, which signed a similar deal with another GDS Sabre earlier this month, said this latest agreement would lower its distribution costs.
Doyle family wins control of Jurys Hotels
The Doyle family has taken control of the Irish hotel group Jurys Doyle. LDH Acquisitions, the family vehicle for the take over of the group, paid €50m for half of a prominent shareholder's 8.3% stake.
It has also agreed to buy up the remaining half which will give it about 58% of the hotel company.
Royal Jordanian joins Oneworld
Royal Jordanian has joined the Oneworld Alliance led by American Airlines and BA. It is the first carrier from the Middle East to join any of the three major airline alliances.
It is also the first carrier to join Oneworld for five years although Malev, the Hungarian carrier, is currently negotiating to become a member.
Rezidor SAS expands in Middle East
Brussels-based hotels group Rezidor SAS has announced major expansion in the Middle East with ten new hotels to be opened by the end of 2008.
Two, one each in Egypt and Dubai are due to open this year while eight more are planned over the next three years.
The hotels, both Radisson SAS and Park Inn brands, will give the company an extra 2598 rooms in the region.
