IBERIA is considering closing some routes this year because of what it is calling unfair aid given by some airports to budget airlines. The Spanish airline's chairman Fernando Conte said that Iberia was concerned about what he called "distortions" at the smaller Spanish airports, favoured by discount carriers like easyJet and Ryanair. The move could affect all domestic routes to the northern regions of Galicia and Catalonia, as well as the southern region of Andalusia. The airline also reportedly said it plans to initiate discussions about selling its stake in Amadeus, of which it owns 18%.
