IBERIA has joined forces with the Canadian simulator manufacturer CAE to form an aviation training joint venture, consolidating the assets of their respective training centres at Alcala (CAE) and at Barajas airport (Iberia). CAE and Iberia will have an 80-20 equity split. Iberia currently has about 2,000 pilots and the new operation will be active in further development of third-party training opportunities. CAE's Alcala centre was opened in 2000 and includes simulators for the Airbus A320, CRJ200, MD-82 and Dash 8 aircraft. Iberia, Spain's flagship carrier, currently trains its pilots on two Airbus A320-200, two A340-300, one B747-200 and one MD-87/88 full-flight simulators.
