HELSINKI AIRPORT has officially opened its third runway, 3000m and parallel to the existing main runway. Last Thursday a Finnair MD-11 took off at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport at 1415 local time on its way to Kennedy-New York. Captain of the historic flight was Pekka Henttu, already on to his sixth aircraft type, having started at Finnair in 1976 flying the piston engined Convair Metropolitan. Captain Henttu praises the smooth surface of the new runway and the technical quality and condition of the airport. The airport moved 10m passengers last year.
