Multiple Plaza Premium lounges at Heathrow are now accepting mobile payments via the Alipay app, which the company says will benefit Chinese passengers flying through the airport.
Surveys show 85 per cent of mobile payments in China are made through Alipay, which uses a QR code powered by Zapper technology to allow users to scan their phone’s screen to make payments. It is associated with Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards and is already accepted on airlines such as Aeroflot, Vanilla Air and Emirates.
Plaza Premium says Alipay users can search and pay for lounge access using the app. Lounges are located in arrivals and departures at terminals two, three, four and five at Heathrow. They include free wifi, seating areas, a full hot/cold buffet and a stocked bar.
