HAWAII, part of the United States, and not as far from London as Sydney, is to have a new inter island airline with services expected to begin in the first quarter of 2006. Regional carrier Mesa, based in Phoenix, Arizona, has announced what it calls "Project Hele", to provide a new airline under an independent Hawaiian brand. No aircraft type has been confirmed. The airline currently operates 182 aircraft with over 1,100 daily departures to over 165 cities, and flies internationally to Canada and Mexico. It has been profitable on a pro-forma basis for 27 out of the last 28 quarters.
