GREECE, rather like Italy, looks like it wants to keep its national airline regardless. After last week”s cabinet meeting, a senior government official said that the loss-making airline would be re-launched in what is virtually a Greek version of a private/government partnership. Details are still to emerge after a well-publicised plan to sell the loss-making airline to overseas investors collapsed. Quite how all this will work out remains to be seen, after a European Commission ruling in September requiring the airline to pay back to the government around E540m ($632.8m) in state aid.
