GERMANWINGS, the budget subsidiary of Eurowings (itself owned 25% by Lufthansa) has celebrated its first year of operations with passenger bookings expected to reach 2.4m by the end of 2003 and a load factor of over 80%. The airline says that for 2004 it plans to carry 3.5m and increase the number of destinations by at least 50%. From its Cologne/Bonn hub the airline only currently serves Stansted in the UK, plus some other 18 European destinations and another 10 from its new base at Stuttgart.
