GATWICK has a new high tech bus service linking Bewbush in Crawley and the airport”s North Terminal. Eventually the system, called Fastway will cover Crawley, Holey and most of Gatwick Airport. The buses are linked into a computerised system that controls the traffic lights on the network. They also run part of the way in dedicated lanes and includes several sections of guideway which have physical features that effectively prevent unauthorised use by other road traffic. A guideway comprises a purpose-built track formed of two running strips with raised kerbs and a drainage media in between. A global satellite based positioning system tells passengers when they can expect to arrive at a particular stop. The new service operates 20 hours a day seven days per week. We are unable to quite understand why Olympic Pentathlete medal winner Kate Allenby is getting ready for take off, but maybe it is to suggest that Fastway is in a "go" position.
