INDONESIA may still be off limits as far as the Foreign Office is concerned but that has not stopped the London office of Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier, of being inventive. As of 1 August 2003, Garuda will introduce a codeshare with Malaysia Airlines on its Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur route. Passengers will then connect onto a flight to either Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya or Medan. The new service will help immensely with the continuing Back 2 Bali campaign. The airline has teamed up with tour operators, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in Indonesia and the Indonesian Embassy in the UK to encourage the UK Foreign Office to re-assess its travel advice for Bali.
