FLYING BIKES, or rephrased as ”taking bicycles by air” may not be
original but bringing your bike on to an aircraft is banned by some
budget airlines, and not looked upon favourably by others. Atlantic
Express, who introduce a Stansted ” Jersey service at the end of the
month, has acknowledged the island”s encouragement of this type of
tourism and 96 miles of specially designated cycle paths, by offering
free bike travel for anyone with a collapsible machine. They point
out the scheme is experimental at the moment and that, sadly, cycle
clubs en masse cannot be accommodated. Mike Pitman, Atlantic Express
man in Jersey, gives sales manager Sue Hawkins a push on her Brompton
folding cycle.
