FRANKFURT AIRPORT, with the introduction of the summer timetable last weekend, will be offering 491 scheduled passenger flights per week to destinations in Eastern Europe ” an increase of 16.6% compared to the same period in 2003. The number of seats available per week from FRA to Eastern Europe will also climb 13.8% to 62,104. The new timetable features some 39 destinations in the former Eastern Block region, which stretches eastward from Germany to the Ural Mountains. On 1 May, the European Union will be enlarged by 10 countries, including eight in Eastern Europe: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. In 2003 the airport moved 48.35m passengers, a drop of 0.02% over 2002.
