FOKKER could be making a comeback. Rekkof (in fact Fokker spelt backwards) a company who now own the design rights for the former Schiphol-based manufacturer”s series of commercial jets is close to resurrecting the Fokker 70 70/80-seat twinjet. An announcement could be made at Farnborough time and the company says that they are in discussions with potential customers, suppliers, and providers of capital to restart the production by the end of the year. Rekkof is controlled by Dutch entrepreneur Japp Jacobson, who also owns VLM. There does appear to be serious airline interest in the aircraft which would compete with the Embraer 170 and Bombardier CRJ 900 at a discount to the newer 'planes. About 50 from the original production batch are currently in airline service. The F70 is certificated for London City Airport. Jacobson sees a market for 250 new F70s with deliveries from 2006.
