FLYBE chief executive Jim French has called on the government to invest in budget airline services to help the regeneration of the UK”s regions.
He also repeated his plea for new runways at Birmingham and Heathrow.
Speaking at a Labour Party Conference fringe meeting in Bournemouth, French said subsidies to help establish new regional routes should be made available in the UK, but in a way that was fair and open.
”We say invest in attracting low fares airlines to the regions but do it in a transparent and equal way - a lesson hopefully that the EU has learnt from the recent Ryanair furore”, he said, referring to the current investigation into the Irish airline's incentive agreement with Charleroi Airport.
”Low fares airlines have a key contribution to make to the regeneration of the regions and a government policy should create the economic conditions to enable them to flourish.”
